INTRODUCTION

This competition organized by China Literature strives to discover young talents in either English novel writing or Chinese-to-English novel translation. We want to give the community a platform to showcase their talents, and we aim to find and nurture talents in the early adulthood. Ultimately, we hope to build new bonds with the literature communities around the world.

TIMELINE

Category 1: Chinese-to-English Novel Translation

Category 2: Original English Composition

MISSION

  • Category 1: Chinese-to-English Novel Translation

    Contestants will choose a novel from a given book list and translate its contents from Chinese to English. All work should be completed individually.

  • Category 2: Original English Composition

    Contestants will submit the early chapters (at least 20,000 words) of their novel. All work should be completed individually.

REWARDS

Chinese-to-English Novel Translation Category

The winning contestants will become contracted translators of China Literature, receiving munificent translator benefits. The winning contestants will also be offered a job opportunity with China Literature.

  • First Place: 1 Winner A contract of at least $50,000 USD in value + Awards Certificate
  • Second Place: 2 Winners A contract of at least $40,000 USD in value + Awards Certificate
  • Third Place: 3 Winners A contract of at least $30,000 USD in value + Awards Certificate

Original English Composition Category

The winning contestants will become the first group of contracted English authors of China Literature. The winning works will receive the most comprehensive media promotion.

  • First Place: 1 Winner A contract of at least $20,000 USD in value + Awards Certificate
  • Second Place: 2 Winners A contract of at least $10,000 USD in value + Awards Certificate
  • Third Place: 3 Winners A contract of at least $8,000 USD in value + Awards Certificate

REQUIREMENT

Current students and literature enthusiast around the world who had graduated less than five years ago would be eligible to enter the competition.

  • Contestants must ensure that their work was completed independently without the assistance of any outside personnel or organization.
  • Contestants must guarantee and ensure that their work did not plagiarize the works of any third party or infringe upon the rights (including but not limited to intellectual property rights and rights of reputation, name and portraiture) of any third party.
  • In order to prevent copyright disputes during the review period, authors entering the contest must own the copyright of the work they submitted. Contestants must ensure that their work is not involved in any current copyright disputes and have never been published nor received any award.
  • Contestants submitting original work must only submit one piece of writing. Works may not be altered or replaced after submission.
  • China Literature reserves the right of final interpretation of this contest.
